Accessories

Peyton has been very into accessories lately. She wears (multiple) necklaces, bracelets and a headband everyday.  She says that's what princesses wear and she wants to be like a princess (she's VERY into princesses right now!).  She wears dresses everyday unless we are going to the park and I ask her to wear play clothes.  She told Jason that she doesn't like to wear pants because she isn't a prince.  One day we were out in the front yard playing and she had on her black dress shoes (that she wears everyday) and got dirt in them.  I suggested that she wear tennis shoes when we are outside playing to which she replied "I'm not a MAN!".  I couldn't help but laugh.  I explained to her that girls wear tennis shoes too but I'm not sure she was convinced.  I love watching her form her own interests and opinions and am curious to see how long this "princess" phase lasts!

I did eventually manage to convince her that wearing only one or two necklaces looked nice too instead of seven! You could hear  her coming with all those beads ;)

"I Can Read It"

I picked up a Sophia the First book for Peyton at the grocery store a couple of weeks ago (a great way to keep her occupied at the store!) and we've been reading it non stop ever since.  Now when we sit down to read it she says, "I can read it" and requests that I hand it over to her. She does remarkably well "reading".  She has almost the entire thing memorized - some pages word for word and turns the page at the appropriate time.  I can't get over hearing her "read".  I often find myself giggling as she says some of the bigger words - it amazes me every time!

Peyton's Nest

Every time Peyton goes to bed she builds a little nest in her crib.  It takes her a few minutes to put it together and it has to be just so.  She starts with a bird shaped pillow and then covers it with a blanket, her lovey, and 4 or 5 burp rags.  She makes sure her baby doll of choice is covered and comfy and then finally lays down.  When she wakes up she throws each piece of the nest out of her crib before calling me to come get her.  If I happen to come in before everything is on the floor she tells me I can't come in yet until all of her "things" are out.  Once everything is on the floor she calls out "Mommmmy, where are you?"   She picks everything up and puts it back in the crib so it's ready for next time.   I love her little quirks!

Sweet Dreams and Sleep Tight

Peyton is becoming a master at stalling at bedtime.  Every night when I put her in her crib we have another several minutes of dialouge that goes something like this:

Peyton: I need a hug and kiss.  Come over to this side (I have to stand at the end of the crib)
Me: Good night.  I love you.  See you in the morning. (hug and kiss)
Peyton: Maybe when I wake up we can play together.
Me: Sure.  That will be fun.  Goodnight.  (inching out the door)
Peyton: Wait!  I need another hug and kiss.
Me: Ok. (hug and kiss).  Goodnight.  I love you.  See you in the morning.  (get halfway out the door)
Peyton:  Oh what shoes are you wearing?  I like them!
Me. Thanks!  Goodnight.  I love you.
Peyton: Make sure you play with Daddy for a little bit.
Me: Ok.  I will.  Love you.  Sweet dreams and sleep tight.
Peyton: Sweet dreams and sleep tight.  That's all the words. Night night. Bye bye.

Silly, silly girl!  It cracks me up every night!

Maniac

I've mentioned several times how much Peyton sings around the house and how she now makes up her own songs.  Yesterday as she was washing her hands I heard her singing " Mommy's a maniac, Mommy's a maniac".  Funny girl!

Things Toddlers Do

Surround you with books while you are doing the dishes

Saturday, December 14, 2013

The other day I was sitting on the couch in the living room while Peyton was in her room.  She was suspiciously quiet but I didn't think too much of it.  She finally came running out of her room and I noticed something shiny on her face...she had smeared Vasoline allll over her face and neck.  There was a jar in a basket on her changing table and we've been putting it on her cheeks at night because they have been so chapped due to the cold weather and having a bit of a cold.  She was so proud of herself for putting in on - I couldn't help but just laugh!  I have a feeling two is going to be a lot fun and I will have many little stories like this to share!
